Cape Cod Community College student hit by car on her way to class

The 18-year-old from Carver was in a Route 132 crosswalk at the time and was "thrown several feet," police said.

A Cape Cod Community College student was hit by a car while in a crosswalk on her way to class Tuesday morning and was “thrown several feet,” according to police.Barnstable police say the 18-year-old from Carver was struck while crossing Route 132 in front of the West Barnstable campus around 8:15 a.m. She sustained injuries to the left side of her body.The student was “conscious and alert” after the crash, police said, and she was transported to South Shore Hospital.Milenna Rodrigues, 32, of Centerville, hit the Carver woman while heading south in a 2012 Toyota Corolla, according to police.“Rodrigues’ vehicle had visible damage to the front and windshield area,” officers wrote in a release. “She was transported by (the) Barnstable Fire Department to Cape Cod Hospital for an unknown medical problem.” Officers say Rodrigues will face charges of operating without a license, operating to endanger, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and a crosswalk violation. The crash remained under investigation as of midday Tuesday.
