Woman flees rollover in Revere, leaves injured child at scene, police say
A bystander brought the boy to a health care center, according to officials.
A woman fled the scene after crashing her SUV in Revere early Sunday morning, leaving behind one of the two children with her in the vehicle, according to authorities.
Cecilia Miranda, 37, of Revere, faces several charges after she crashed her red, Nissan Kicks on Route 16 near the Route 1 on-ramp sometime before 12:05 a.m., Massachusetts State Police said in a statement.
The SUV rolled over and eventually came to a halt in a ditch, before Miranda, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, left the scene in a bystander’s vehicle with a 6-year-old boy who had been in her SUV, police said.
Miranda allegedly left another child in the vehicle, according to officials.
“Witnesses stated that another bystander stopped and took the 10-year-old in their vehicle, reportedly to a local hospital,” police said in the statement. “Both children were reported by witnesses to have severe injuries.”
An investigation led troopers to both children and Miranda, who was found with the 6-year-old boy at Massachusetts General Hospital.
The East Boston Neighborhood HealthCare Center told authorities the 10-year-old child was dropped off there. The boy was later brought to Boston Children’s Hospital.
Police said both children had severe but nonlife-threatening injuries.
Miranda faces charges of operating under the influence of alcohol with serious bodily injury and negligent operation; two counts of child endangerment while operating under the influence; open container of alcohol; leaving the scene of a personal injury crash; reckless operation of a motor vehicle; child under 8 years old without a car seat; abandoning a motor vehicle; and a marked lanes violation.
She was scheduled to be arraigned in Chelsea District Court Monday.
