Firefighters are battling a 5-alarm blaze in Roxbury
Firefighters reported "heavy fire" on the second floor and in the attic of a two-family home.
Boston and area firefighters are battling what is now a five-alarm blaze at a two-family home in Roxbury.Boston firefighters responded to the scene at 27 and 29 Perrin St. around 9 a.m., the department said on Twitter. Fire was showing, and officials struck a second alarm.

Firefighters were soon ordered out of the building, and officials moved to a defensive attack of the fire. “Heavy fire” was reported on the second floor and in the attic; officials called a third alarm around 9:17 a.m. Firefighters used “multiple hose lines” to fight the visible flames around 9:23 a.m.

By 9:40 a.m., a fourth alarm was struck, officials said on Twitter.

Boston then called a fifth alarm, and Cambridge firefighters sent one of their engines to help cover for Boston.

Boston Fire Commissioner Joseph Finn was reportedly in charge of the scene at 9:56 a.m. Smoke continued to pour from the building.

Flames were shooting through the roof just after 10 a.m., officials said.

Finn said one resident was injured with burns on his arm, according to the department on Twitter. Damage is estimated around $750,000.
