Woman killed, another injured, in Somerville hit-and-run

A woman was struck and killed by a pickup in a busy intersection in Somerville Friday night and a second woman injured by a driver who fled the scene, authorities said.

Officials were searching for a dark-colored pickup truck that is believed to have sustained front-end damage, the Middlesex district attorney’s office said in a statement.

The incident happened at 7:16 p.m. at the intersection of Powderhouse and Hardan Road, the statement said.

The two women were in a crosswalk when they were struck. They were taken to a local hospital where one of the women died from her injuries, the statement said.

The second woman’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The district attorney’s office and Somerville police are investigating the crash.
