Woman, dog killed in Sharon crash, police say

Their sedan struck a tree alongside Interstate 95.

A 73-year-old Rockport woman and a dog were killed Sunday afternoon when the car they were in collided with another vehicle and spun across Interstate 95 in Sharon, ultimately hitting a tree, according to authorities.

Massachusetts State Police responded to reports of a crash north of Exit 8 around 2:23 p.m., officials said in a statement.

The Rockport woman, driving a 2003 Jaguar sedan, and a 79-year-old Brewster woman, operating a 2017 Volkswagen Passat, were both traveling north before their vehicles made contact with each other, police said.

The Rockport woman lost control of the Jaguar and it spun across the left two lanes before exiting the highway, rolling down an embankment, and crashing into the tree, according to officials.
