The 27-year-old suspect was taken to a hospital with "serious injuries," according to police.
A 27-year-old Billerica man allegedly took off on foot from the vehicle he crashed into the median of I-495 in Hopkinton while fleeing from police Tuesday evening only to be struck by two vehicles on the northbound side of the highway, authorities said. The man, who police haven’t publicly identified, suffered “serious injuries,” state police said. He was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester by ambulance.A motorist called police around 6:05 p.m. to report that an SUV “operating erratically” passed them at about 100 mph on I-495 in Marlborough. A trooper soon spotted the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe and attempted to stop it, police said. However, the vehicle didn’t stop, and state police then began to pursue it.“A short time later the fleeing suspect lost control of the Tahoe and spun out to the left, into the center median on Route 495 southbound, south of Exit 21, in Hopkinton,” police said. The man, who was the only person in the vehicle, left the Tahoe and took off on foot toward the northbound side of the highway, according to authorities. At 6:16 p.m., state police received reports that the man had been struck by two vehicles near Exit 21. He first collided with a 2017 Subaru Impreza wagon driven by a 56-year-old man from Medway and was then struck by the side-view mirror of a 2017 Ford Explorer driven by a 67-year-old man from Westford, police said.Police used a helicopter and a K-9 team on the ground to make sure the suspect was the only person in the vehicle and that there were no other victims. The Tahoe and the Impreza were towed, police said. Two northbound lanes of I-495 and one southbound lane were closed until about 9:20 p.m. while police investigated.
