South End man held without bail in Brighton double murder case

Nicholas Antoine, 20, was arraigned on indictment charges after evading police for months, prosecutors say.

A 20-year-old South End man who prosecutors say shot and killed two men at a Brighton home in June was held without bail during his arraignment Monday after he spent months on the run from authorities, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.

Nicholas Antoine faces two counts of first-degree murder and other firearm offenses in connection to the murders of 26-year-old Wilfred Peters and 27-year-old Jeffrey Montaque, who authorities allege were gunned down by Antoine during a gathering at Peters’s Faneuil Street residence on June 30.

According to prosecutors, Antoine was among a group of people at the home overnight and, according to evidence, was asked to leave at some point, a statement from the district attorney’s office said.

Antoine then allegedly went to his car, returned to the home with a firearm, and opened fire — hitting Peters and Montaque multiple times — before he fled, officials said.

Both Peters and Montaque were pronounced dead at the scene.

Antoine was identified as the suspect through eyewitnesses, videos, fingerprints, and other evidence, according to prosecutors. Prosecutors in Suffolk Superior Court Monday said ballistic evidence shows only one weapon was used.

He was indicted by a Suffolk County Grand Jury in August but was not apprehended until earlier this month when he was found in a Jonesboro, Georgia, trailer park.
