Shrewsbury man dies in Mass. Pike crash, police say
His car struck the back of a tractor-trailer as the truck turned around in Blandford, according to officials.
A 61-year-old Shrewsbury man died Wednesday evening after his car struck the back of a tractor-trailer as the truck turned around on the Mass. Pike, according to police.
Authorities responded to reports of a crash on the eastbound side of the highway in Blandford at the 28.6 mile-marker around 5:20 p.m., Massachusetts State Police said in a statement.
On scene, officials found through a preliminary investigation that the man’s 2015 Ford Mustang hit the rear of the truck, which was initially traveling westbound but was struck on the eastbound side as it changed direction in an emergency turn-around area, police said.
The Shrewsbury man, who was driving the Mustang and was not identified, died at the scene, authorities said. The tractor-trailer driver, a 46-year-old Pennsylvania man, was not injured, according to police.
Officials were still investigating why the tractor-trailer driver turned his truck around.
All eastbound lanes on the Mass. Pike were closed until the breakdown lane opened for motorists around 7:43 p.m. All lanes were reopened at 9:52 p.m.
