The National Weather Service on whether it will be a white Christmas

"It is going to be an absolutely beautiful, clear, sunny day," said Eleanor Vallier-Talbot of the National Weather Service in Norton.

Bad news for those dreaming of a white Christmas: We’re not likely to have one in the Boston area, according to Eleanor Vallier-Talbot of the National Weather Service in Norton.

Though light snow began falling around noon on Monday from Bedford down to Providence and over into central Massachusetts and northeast Connecticut, and is moving into the Boston area, it will not accumulate, Vallier-Talbot said.

“We’re expecting less than an inch across most of our area,” she said.

As for Christmas Day in the Boston area? Vallier-Talbot doesn’t anticipate any snow on Tuesday.

“It is going to be an absolutely beautiful, clear, sunny day,” she said.

The average temperature for this time of year is 39 degrees, which was the current temperature at Boston’s Logan Airport at noon on Monday. On Christmas Day, the temperature is expected to fall slightly short of that, Vallier-Talbot said, hitting 35 or 36 degrees.
