Maine town celebrates the teenage inventor of the earmuff
FARMINGTON, Maine (AP) — Maine is celebrating a native son who gets credit for inventing the earmuff.
The town of Farmington is holding a parade and other events on Saturday to mark the 40th Chester Greenwood Day.
Greenwood was just 15 when he fashioned his first muffs out of farm wire and fur that his grandmother sewed onto them in 1873.

Frustrated by having to choose between a bulky scarf or chilly ears while ice skating, 15-year-old Chester Greenwood came up with a solution — ear-shaped wire loops with fur.
