Elderly woman gets pinned beneath car at N.H. polling place

Police said the driver may have forgotten to switch their vehicle into "drive" and accidentally backed up.

An elderly woman was pinned beneath a vehicle in the parking lot of  a Windham, New Hampshire, polling place Tuesday afternoon and may have sustained “serious injuries” as a result, police said.The woman was “conscious and breathing” when police were called to the scene around 12:23 p.m., they said. Police arrived “almost immediately” since some officers were working at the Windham High School polls for Election Day.Firefighters used tools to raise the vehicle off the victim, who was taken to a nearby hospital.“Her condition remains unknown although it is believed that she suffered serious injuries,” police said.While police are continuing to investigate, they said they found out that the driver may have forgotten to switch their car from “reverse” to “drive” and backed up into the victim instead of driving forward as intended.The driver and their passenger were not injured, police said.
