Walpole man arrested after allegedly pushing a child on Halloween
Richard Lawlor, 73, is charged with assault and battery and disturbing the peace.
A six-year-old child said a Walpole man pushed him and called him a “spoiled brat” during Halloween trick-or-treating Thursday evening, according to Walpole police. When officers arrived on the scene at David Circle at approximately 6:30 p.m., the child was “screaming and crying,” according to police. The child told officers that the man, identified as Richard Lawlor, 73, had “pushed him, knocked off his hat, pulled his hair and pinched him,” police said.Police approached Lawlor and asked him to take his hands out of his pockets and that’s when Lawlor told them he was carrying a gun, police said. An officer retrieved the weapon, a .380-caliber Smith and Wesson loaded with six bullets, according to police.Lawlor told police that the child had tried to go inside his house because he didn’t like the candy Lawlor gave him, and that’s when he said he pushed the child. He denied knocking his hat off or pinching him.Lawlor was charged with assault and battery and disturbing the peace. Police also suspended his license to carry a firearm.
