A child’s parent thought a piece of metal was put in their Halloween candy. Turns out it was from dental work.

A concerned parent brought in a “metal object” found inside their child’s Halloween candy to the Sturbridge Police Department on Thursday. It turns out it was a piece of the kid’s dental work, police said Friday.Someone on Facebook figured out what the piece of metal was, according to a post from the department.“The investigating officer was able to follow up with the parent who confirmed the child was missing the piece,” police wrote. “The parent was embarrassed and apologetic as they forgot the piece was put in over a year ago. Please do not pass judgement on the parent; this was reported to the police because they thought there may be danger to other children.”

The dental piece was inside a Now and Later chewy candy, the parent said, according to police.

While this incident ended up benign, other area police departments did report foreign objects in Halloween candy.
