Truck drives almost completely into Chelmsford building; driver sustains ‘serious, life-threatening injuries’

A pickup truck went almost completely into a building in Chelmsford, and the driver, an 83-year-old Lowell man, was flown to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with “serious, life-threatening injuries,” police said. Emergency responders were called to 22 Middlesex St. at 5:20 p.m. Monday and found a Toyota Tacoma about three-fourths of the way into the building, which holds a dentist’s office and an insurance business, according to authorities.No one else was injured in the incident; the man was the only occupant of the vehicle, and, while there were people in the building, they weren’t hurt.Police believe the pickup was on Wright Street when it crossed Middlesex Street and entered the building. They’re continuing to investigate.
