“Last night we pretty much had a great celebration in the City of Boston; however, we did have one arrest, a destruction of property arrest,” Mayor Marty Walsh said during a press conference on the planned duck boat victory parade. “Other than that we had a great night of celebration in the City of Boston.”

Police said the individual, 22-year-old Shawn Lindsay of Connecticut, was arrested and charged with malicious destruction of property after officers observed him around 12:15 a.m. climbing a lamp post on Boston Common near 75 Boylston St.

“Officers further observed [Lindsay] punch the light fixture multiple times, causing the plastic lens to shatter,” police said in a statement.

The 22-year-old was instructed by officers to climb back down, which he did, and he was arrested, according to police. He was expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.

“For the most part, thousands of people celebrated peacefully — except for one individual,” Boston Police Commissioner William Gross said of the arrest.
