Cambridge man facing 40 charges after police seize numerous guns, ammunition from home
Police said they've been investigating Mathew Devine for months.
A Cambridge man is facing 40 charges after police seized nearly 30 guns, plus gun parts and “hundreds of rounds of ammunition” from his home, Cambridge police said. Mathew Devine, 39, was arrested Tuesday when police used a search warrant to enter his home at 43 Seven Pines Ave. Authorities have been investigating Devine since July, when the US Postal Service notified them of “suspicious activity,” police said.“During the course of the investigation, it was determined that more than 75 packages worth more than $26,000 were delivered to Devine, including a complete AR-15 build kit and a milling machine, with return addresses primarily originating from gun and weapon companies,” police said in a news release. “The gun parts were purchased online, distributed through the mail and assembled into untraceable complete firearms.”

Between searching Devine’s home and that of a family member on Gold Star Road, officials said they found 25 illegal firearms, “hundreds” of ammunition rounds, milling machines, five bullet proof vests and body armor, three assault rifles that weren’t registered plus “dozens” of parts to create more guns, police. Devine was not licensed to carry a firearm, officials said.
According to officials, Devine is being charged with:
- 26 counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition without the proper license
- Three counts each of illegal possession of assault rifles and possession of a silencer
- Six counts of illegal possession of a large capacity feeding device
- One count each of use of body armor in the commission of a felony and possession of ammunition.
Devine is expected to be arraigned in Cambridge District Court on Wednesday.Along with Cambridge police, the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, US Marshals Service and New England Electronic Crimes Task Force also assisted.
