Divers recover body of Maine lobsterman who fell overboard

The 51-year-old was seen falling off his boat on Tuesday morning.

Divers recovered the body of a 51-year-old Maine lobsterman on Tuesday evening who was seen earlier in the day falling off his boat. Authorities said Scott Chandler, of West Jonesport, was on his 20-foot boat near Doyle Island in Jonesport when he fell into the water around 9:20 a.m. Commercial seaweed harvesters in the area who witnessed him go into the water reported the incident to authorities, according to Maine Marine Patrol. State police, U.S. Coast Guard boats, and the Warden Service dive team were among those who responded to search by sea and air. The Portland Press Herald reports Chandler was working alone on his boat at the time.The search crews covered an area of 233 square nautical miles, according to the Coast Guard. Chandler’s body was found around 5 p.m. about 500 yards from where he went into the water.The circumstances around how Chandler fell into the water remain under investigation by the Marine Patrol and US Coast Guard,” the marine patrol said.
