Man charged with attacking officer outside South Station
Officials said the officer was attempting to break up an argument between a man and woman.
An MBTA Transit Police officer was attacked in South Station Monday night when he attempted to break up an argument between a man and a woman, officials said.Othman Yakuba, 33, appeared to be threatening a woman just outside the station doors when the officer approached, Transit Police said in a statement.

After approaching the couple, the officer was attacked by Yakuba, according to the statement. The officer fell backwards and struck his head on the pavement, officials said.
As the two wrestled, the officer was able to call for backup by pushing the “officer in trouble” button on his radio, according to officials.
Transit police said that two witnesses intervened until backup arrived.
Yakuba was charged with assault and battery on a police officer as well as another assault and battery charge related to the altercation with the woman, officials said.
