1 dead, another injured after carbon monoxide incident at Central Mass. home

It is unclear if the home had working alarms, officials said.

One person died and another was hospitalized Wednesday after carbon monoxide filled a Wales home, according to the State Fire Marshal’s office.

Officials are now investigating the Brows Beach Road home incident and whether the residence was equipped with a working carbon monoxide alarm, according to a statement from the marshal’s office.

Authorities received a 911 call from inside the home around 2:30 p.m. reporting that people were not feeling well, a department spokeswoman told Boston.com Thursday.

A pet was also found unconscious at the home, the spokeswoman said.

“The joint investigation into the cause of the incident is under investigation but heating is the leading cause of (carbon monoxide) in the home,” the statement said. “Part of the investigation will determine if the home had working (carbon monoxide) alarms, which are required in every Massachusetts home.”

The review is being carried out by the Wales fire and police departments and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office and the Hampden County District Attorney’s office, the statement said.
