Vermont police say man, 31, dies after Fairfield ATV crash

FAIRFIELD, Vt. (AP) — Vermont State Police say a 31-year-old man is dead after he rode an ATV into a logging cable that was stretched across a field in the town of Fairfield.

The crash in a field off North Road was reported about 1:40 p.m. Saturday.

The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of his family.

The investigation found the victim had been working on a logging winch and a cable had been stretched across a field to uncoil it. The victim left the field for lunch and when he returned he apparently forgot about the cable, striking it with his upper body and neck.
