Suspect arrested in Mattapan shooting that injured 15-year-old girl

The teen was taken to a hospital with injuries police say were not life-threatening.

A 24-year-old man wanted in connection with the shooting of a teenage girl in Mattapan in July was arrested on Thursday morning, according to Boston police. John Jackson, of Mattapan, is facing multiple charges in connection with the July 17 shooting, including assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, and unlawful possession of a firearm. Police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 998 Blue Hill Ave. that morning. Prior to the shooting, authorities say Jackson was seen entering the store at that location and requesting the bathroom key. Witnesses told police a “bang” was heard in the bathroom, where the 15-year-old victim was found on the floor. Jackson allegedly left the store slowly before running down Blue Hill Avenue toward Callender Street. The teen was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, according to police.
