Veteran firefighter dies in Maine crash

Harry Weymouth, 46, of Buxton, had been with the South Portland Fire Department for 21 years.

HOLLIS, Maine (AP) — Police say an off-duty Maine firefighter died in a two-car crash caused when he apparently fell asleep while driving.

Forty-six-year-old Harry Weymouth of Buxton died early Thursday in Hollis. He was a 21-year veteran of the South Portland Fire Department, where he was a lieutenant, and a volunteer with the Buxton Fire Department.

Police say Weymouth was alone in the car on Route 202 when he crossed a centerline and struck another car that was operated by 45-year-old Zahra Guedi of Portland. Guedi and a passenger were treated and released for injuries that were not life-threatening. Police say speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash.
