Mashpee woman dies after being hit by vehicle on Route 28

A 59-year-old Mashpee woman died after being struck by a vehicle on Route 28 Tuesday night, police said.Michele Poirier died at Cape Cod Hospital from being seriously injured when a westbound vehicle hit her near 100 Falmouth Road (Route 28) before 8:32 p.m., Mashpee police said in a press release.“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and her family at this time,” Police Chief Scott Carline said in a statement. “The accident remains under investigation by the Mashpee Police Department and the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction Team.”Poirier was brought to the hospital Tuesday with life-threatening injuries, authorities said. An updated press release Wednesday morning indicated she had since died as a result of the crash.Authorities are still investigating the incident, so no charges have been filed, Carline told Boston.com.
