Man killed in South Boston crash off Mass. Pike exit

The crash closed the Haul Road Mass. Pike exit Wednesday morning.

A 59-year-old man was killed Wednesday morning after the SUV he was driving ran a red light in South Boston and struck a tractor-trailer, police said.The crash, on Haul Road near the intersection of the eastbound Mass. Pike Exit 25 off ramp, was reported around 7:08 a.m., according to Massachusetts State Police.An initial investigation by state police determined that the man — whose identity has not been released — did not stop at a red light as he drove his 2015 Nissan Rogue off of the Mass. Pike exit and onto Haul Road, police said in a press release.The vehicle hit a truck driving into the Bypass and Haul roads intersection, police said.The man was brought to Tufts Medical Center in Boston with serious injuries but was later pronounced dead, according to police.The crash prompted the temporary closing of the Haul Road Mass. Pike exit, with traffic diverted to Seaport Boulevard, and remains under investigation by state police.
