20-year-old man drowns swimming out to island at Breakheart Reservation
Family members attempted to find him after he went under the water.
Authorities say a 20-year-old man from Honduras was attempting to swim out to an island at Breakheart Reservation in Saugus Wednesday when he went under the water and drowned.The Essex district attorney’s office said Uwaldo Erazo was living with a cousin in Lynn at the time of his death.Police responded to 911 calls around 4:49 p.m. reporting that a person had gone missing and possibly drowned in the reservation’s Silver Lake, authorities said. “Erazo had attempted to swim to an island in the lake with two of his cousins, but about halfway there he struggled and went under,” the DA’s office said. Attempts by his cousins to find him were unsuccessful, authorities said. Erazo was ultimately pulled from the water around 5:53 p.m. by first responders and taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:24 p.m.Lifeguards were on duty at the time of the incident, WCVB reports.
