Conn. police making pot bust recover gun reported stolen in Mass. in 1983

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut police making a drug bust say they recovered a gun reported stolen in Massachusetts more than three decades ago.

Stamford Sgt. Rhett Connolly tells the Stamford Advocate officers were patrolling a parking lot Monday afternoon when they smelled marijuana coming from a car with three men inside.

The men denied having anything more than a joint.

The officers searched the vehicle and found a bag with about 26 grams of pot alongside a fully loaded revolver under the driver’s seat.

Police ran the serial number and found the gun had been reported stolen in Quincy, Massachusetts, in 1983.

All three men denied ownership of the gun, so all three were charged with theft of a firearm as well as marijuana possession.
