Milford woman is arrested after leaving child locked in car

A Milford woman was arrested Tuesday after leaving her child unattended in a locked car in a Walmart parking lot in Rhode Island, police said.

Annelise Marie Ambert, 21, was charged with cruelty or neglect of a child, North Smithfield police said in a statement. The child was not seriously injured.

At 1:20 p.m., police received a report that a toddler had been left alone in a car that had been left running. The car was still running when officers arrived.

An officer broke a front side window to remove the child, who was assessed by rescue personnel, police said.
