Second suspect arrested in connection with severe beating on the Red Line
Two Pembroke men have been charged.
Transit police say tips from the public helped officers take a second suspect into custody in connection with the severe beating of a man on a Red Line train in May. Police issued an arrest warrant for John Karol, 23, of Pembroke, for aggravated assault and battery with serious bodily injury and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on Tuesday. On Friday, police announced on Twitter that the 23-year-old is in custody.“Thanks for all the TIPS!!!” the department wrote on Twitter.

The alleged assault occurred between the Broadway and Andrew MBTA stations on May 28 when Karol, two other men, and a woman allegedly began harassing another passenger and his girlfriend, The Boston Globe reports. According to the newspaper, the group began beating the passenger when he asked that they leave his girlfriend alone, leaving him with injuries that were so severe they required surgery.
The department asked for help identifying suspects in the May 28 attack earlier this month. Another Pembroke man has also been arrested and charged in connection to the incident.
