Police seek suspect in Watertown sexual assault
“During the attack the victim attempted to get the attention of passing cars, but no motorists stopped.”
Authorities say a woman was sexually assaulted Thursday afternoon while she was walking on Greenough Boulevard in Watertown. State police said the woman in her 20s reported that a man “rushed her from behind, grabbed her, and began to forcibly kiss her” around 2:45 p.m as she was walking on the riverside roadway. “The suspect continued to forcibly kiss the victim even as she told him to stop, tried to push him away, and tried to break free,” police said in a statement. “At one point during the assault the suspect indecently touched the victim. The victim continually shouted ‘no’ and ‘stop’ during the indecent assault.”When she was able to break free, the woman ran away across the street toward Grove Street and saw the man walking away in the opposite direction when she looked behind her. “During the attack the victim attempted to get the attention of passing cars, but no motorists stopped,” police said in a statement.Police described the suspect as “a Hispanic male who appeared to be in his early 30s, approximately 5’4
“ tall, with dark hair, wearing a navy blue hat, gray t-shirt, and jeans.”
“We believe that, just before the attack, the suspect was hanging around a dock on the river, west of the playground at Artesani Park,” police said. “At that time, the suspect was with an older Hispanic male, who appeared to be in his late 50s or early 60s, with black and [gray] hair and facial hair, wearing a red shirt and holding a multicolored hat.”
Both men were drinking beers out of large cans at the time, according to police.
Anyone who witnessed the assault or saw the victim, the suspect, or the older man described by authorities is being asked to contact state police.
