Man arrested in connection with stabbing of waitress outside Chelsea restaurant

Police say a Massachusetts man wanted in connection to the stabbing of a waitress outside a Chelsea  restaurant this week was arrested Thursday morning in Maryland.

Chelsea police said Gerardo Reyes Menjivar, 36, of Lynn, was arrested by the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and will face multiple charges including assault to murder when he is returned to Massachusetts. Menjivar was taken into custody after police issued a nationwide BOLO on Tuesday for him and the vehicle he was driving.

“Today after a successful nationwide law enforcement effort we placed a violent individual into custody and our community is safer ” Chief Brian Kyes said in a statement.

Menjivar is accused of slashing a waitress in the neck and hand at Las Pupusas Del Chino on Washington Avenue around 11 p.m. on Monday night, according to The Boston Globe. The stabbing took place after the 36-year-old allegedly left the restaurant without paying and the server, who is in her 30s, followed him out and confronted him as he was getting in his car.

The woman was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital and was treated and released, according to the Globe.
