Authorities ID pedestrian fatally struck in Medford; driver charged
Police say the driver had a learner’s permit but no license.
MEDFORD, Mass. (AP) — Police in Massachusetts say a juvenile is facing drugged driving charges after striking and killing a woman before hitting two more pedestrians and killing their dog.
The driver, whose name was not released because of his age, eventually came to a stop at about 5 p.m. Sunday when his SUV struck a bank in Medford.
He was apprehended there.
Police say he had a learner’s permit but no license. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Cambridge Juvenile Court on charges including operating under the influence and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
The woman killed was identified as 64-year-old Judith Moses of Brookline.
The man and the woman with the dog were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Their names were not disclosed.

MEDFORD – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Medford Chief of Police Leo Sacco Jr. have confirmed a 17-year-old has been charged with operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury, leaving the scene of an accident causing death, operating to endanger and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in connection with yesterday’s fatal pedestrian crash.
The juvenile was arrested by Medford Police last night and will be arraigned today in Cambridge Juvenile Court.
Yesterday, at approximately 4:49 p.m. the juvenile, who was unlicensed but had obtained a learner’s permit, was operating a Toyota RAV4 in the area of Spring and Emerald Street in Medford when he allegedly struck and killed a woman, identified as Judith Moses, 64, of Brookline.
Based on the preliminary investigation the driver continued to travel on Spring Street and subsequently struck two more pedestrians, a 28-year-old female and a 27-year-old male before crashing into the Citizen’s Bank located in the area of Yeoman’s Avenue. Those individuals, remain hospitalized in a Boston area hospital with serious injuries. A dog that was with the victims was killed.
The driver was taken into police custody on scene and was later examined by a drug recognition expert who determined the driver was allegedly operating under the influence of a drug.
With the exception of youthful offender cases, juvenile court proceedings are closed to the public.
Identities of surviving victims will not be released by this office. This is an open and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Medford Police and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
