Connecticut man charged in death of girlfriend’s toddler son

TORRINGTON, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut man is facing a manslaughter charge in connection with the death last year of his girlfriend’s 15-month-old son.

Police on Thursday announced that 27-year-old Alex Ciccarelli-Rosa, of Torrington, was charged with second-degree manslaughter, risk of injury to a minor and tampering with evidence.

He was held on $500,000 bail at his arraignment.

The charges stem from the death of Evan Standish on June 6. Police say Ciccarelli-Rosa was caring for the child and had left the boy unattended in a bathtub. Authorities say Ciccarelli-Rosa tried to use his paramedic training to save the boy and didn’t call 911.

An autopsy determined the boy died of “submersion in tub with blunt injuries to head and acute alcohol intoxication.”

His lawyer says the child’s death “was just a tragic accident.”
