Forbes regrets calling ‘SMILF’ character ‘a Southie’
Here we go again.
For the second time this week, a publication is apologizing for mistakenly calling a person “a Southie” in an article.
In a story about the show SMILF, which is set in South Boston, Forbes contributor Susannah Breslin described the show’s protagonist (played by Frankie Shaw) as “single, smart, a southie … and you know the rest.”
“The rest,” in this case, was a negative reaction on social media.

Breslin’s error came a day after a California newspaper wrote that Palo Alto residents could “eat like a Southie” thanks to the opening of the city’s first Wahlburgers.
While the Forbes review didn’t garner a response from Donnie Wahlberg, Forbes nevertheless added a correction to the bottom of its article, reading: “An earlier version of this story referred to the show’s main character as ‘a southie.’ The author regrets the error. As Boston.com points out, ‘Southie’ is a place, not a person.”
