Scaramucci resigns from Tufts board after weeks of battle with students
Anthony Scaramucci, the brash former White House spokesman whose role as an adviser to his alma mater Tufts University was at the center of a weeks-long uproar on campus, has resigned from the school’s board.
Tufts University announced Tuesday morning that Scaramucci will step down from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy’s advisory board, a position he has held since June 2016.
“This morning, Anthony Scaramucci informed The Fletcher School that he is resigning his position on the school’s Board of Advisors, effective immediately. We thank Mr. Scaramucci for his past service to Tufts and wish him well,’’ Admiral James Stavridis, dean of the school said in a statement.
Some students, professors, and alumni at Tufts University had called on the administration to oust Scaramucci earlier this month, arguing that he didn’t belong on the panel after making vulgar comments about another White House official and for hosting a social media poll that critics said pandered to Holocaust deniers.
Then last week, Scaramucci threatened to sue a Tufts University student and the school newspaper for defamation over the publication of an op-ed column that criticized him.
As a result, on Sunday, Tufts postponed a campus event featuring Scaramucci.
