Framingham 6-year-old behind #WhyNotDevin dies from brain cancer
The Framingham 6-year-old who inspired the #WhyNotDevin campaign after he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer has died.
Devin Suau’s mother, Christine Soutter Suau, announced the news on social media Friday morning: “With a beyond shattered heart and soul, I write this post to tell you that Our little super hero lost his very courageous battle early this morning surrounded by Jay and I and the boys. I know my mom was waiting with the biggest hug along with all those who earned their beautiful wings before us. Please continue to pray for my boys. Today is the worst day of our lives.”

The family started the #WhyNotDevin campaign and a GoFundMe to spread awareness about diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma after Devin was diagnosed with the rare form of cancer earlier this year.
The viral campaign gained the attention of celebrities, including Tom Brady and John Cena.
In March, Devin was sworn in as the honorary police chief of Framingham for a day. The department wrote in a Facebook post Friday morning, “Thank you Chief Devin for sharing your time, your smile and your humor with us.”

Last month, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh proclaimed October 27, 2017, Devin’s birthday, as “Devin Suau Day.” He would have turned 7.
