Revere vigil honors slain Lynn elementary school teacher

A local domestic violence support group held a vigil Friday afternoon at Revere City Hall to call attention to the issue and honor victims of domestic violence, including Lynn schoolteacher Vanessa MacCormack who was found dead last week.

Harbor Communities Overcoming Violence organized the gathering at Revere City Hall, which was also attended by politicians. MacCormack’s husband, Andrew MacCormack, has been charged with murder in her death.

“I am sad, I am frustrated, I am angry, ” Massachusetts House Speaker Robert DeLeo said at the vigil, according to NECN. “I think about a beautiful member of our community who was taken much too soon. … Let us today grieve together. Let us today unite against violence.”

In a statement announcing the vigil, Revere Mayor Brian Arrigo said, “The recent tragedy in Revere is another painful reminder that domestic violence is an epidemic in our society.”
