Starting this weekend, MBTA Red Line weekend service between Kendall/MIT and Park Street stations will be replaced by shuttle buses until at least November, according to the T. The service change will allow for track replacements to be completed as part of the Longfellow Bridge project.

Passengers also may notice speed decreases early in the week, according to MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo.

“The replacement of the track may also require some speed restrictions in this area of the Red Line for the days immediately following each weekend,” he said in an email.

The Red Line could resume normal operations by the weekend of November 18-19, but construction may go through the weekend of December 16-17. Regardless, trains will run normally on October 21 and 22 during the Head of the Charles Regatta and Thanksgiving weekend, November 25-26.

“Starting in December, you can expect a smoother, faster ride across the Longfellow on the Red Line,” the T wrote.
