Emergency responders helped a woman give birth near Porter Square
Emergency first responders in Cambridge helped welcome one of the area’s newest residents Monday morning — when a woman started giving birth near Porter Square while on her way to the hospital. Cambridge police said law enforcement officers, members of the city’s fire department, and EMS responded to a medical emergency call just after 8 a.m. at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Upload Road. Police said a Medford woman in labor was on her way to a local hospital when her water broke. Her husband, who was driving, pulled over and the woman started to give birth, according police. The paramedics, police, and firefighters “quickly arrived” to deliver the baby boy inside the couple’s car around 8:20 a.m, authorities said. Police said the mother and 7-pound, 13-ounce baby were taken to the hospital where “everyone is resting comfortably.”
