The beach had been closed to swimmers after a shark spotter plane reported seeing a shark at about 12:55 p.m., according to Cape Cod National Seashore Acting Ranger Ryan Petersen.

“Per our national seashore protocol, the beach will be closed for one hour. If there are no additional sightings during that time, the beach will open back up,” said Peterson.
Spotter planes are not up every day, so there are generally more shark sightings when they are active.
“Lifeguards see sharks pretty regularly. This is pretty common for us,” Petersen added.
