What Bostonians need to know this week
After a weekend in which an estimated 40,000 people showed up to counter-protest a small “free speech” rally on Boston Common, here’s a look at what you need to know as you soak up these final weeks of summer.

The Yankees were in town: The Sox won two of three and now lead the American League East by five games heading into their series against Cleveland.
A dune collapsed in Wellfleet: No one was injured, but a car parked next to the Beachcomber restaurant fell about 20 feet, and the photo is incredible.
What to know this week:
The greatest show on Earth: While Boston doesn’t fall in the path for a total solar eclipse — we’ll only have about 63 percent of the sun’s light obscured — there are still plenty of locations in the area celebrating with viewing parties. NASA has a countdown clock, scientific info, and safety tips here. Boston.com meteorologist Dave Epstein says it will be mainly sunny, but some clouds could interfere with the view.Trump talks war:
The president plans to address the nation on his strategy for the war in Afghanistan and South Asia at 9 p.m. Monday. “Important day spent at Camp David with our very talented Generals and military leaders. Many decisions made, including on Afghanistan,” he tweeted Saturday.
Harvard welcomes new students: Members of the Ivy League’s newest class move-in Tuesday, including Malia Obama, who decided to take a gap year before attending her parents’ alma mater.
Try your luck: The Powerball is up to $650 million, the third highest jackpot ever. If you’re playing, get your tickets before Wednesday’s drawing.
A typical summer weather forecast: This week will get a sunny and warm start, with highs in the upper-80s Monday and Tuesday. Mid-week brings a chance of showers and thunderstorms before we close out Thursday and Friday with sunshine and temps in the upper-70s.

Something for the kids: Free activities will be packed into Franklin Park in Dorchester on Tuesday for the Boston Children’s Festival. Kids can have fun with face-painting, dance performances, and more from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Signed, sealed, delivered: Natural Wonder, a Stevie Wonder cover band, will play the musician’s hits from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall Plaza as part of the city’s free Dorothy Curran Concert Series. How Old Ironsides got her name: The USS Constitution Museum is commemorating the 205th anniversary of the naval battle that gave the famous ship her nickname. Attendees of the Friday event can create their own “prize urn” or see what it was like to be on the ship’s cannons crew. Arias over lunch: Soak up the sounds of the Boston Lyric Opera during your lunch hour Friday at the Boston Public Library.
