17-year-old arrested after home invasion in Randolph
Randolph police arrested a 17-year-old male in connection to a violent break-in Thursday morning that left a 75-year-old woman injured, according to a statement.
The teen faces charges of armed assault with intent to rob a person over 65 years of age, breaking and entering in the daytime placing a person in fear, and assault and battery on an elderly person, according to police.
Police said the suspect cut a sliding screen door with a knife to enter the home and then demanded money from the victim, who was home alone. He then pushed her down, police said, and fled after she screamed.
The woman called police at about 10:10 a.m. and was treated at her residence by paramedics.
An officer on a detail assignment spotted an individual matching the suspect’s description about a mile away from the home. The suspect was then positively identified, police said.
The suspect was being held at the Randolph Police Department pending his arraignment.
