Two suspects arrested in fatal Dorchester shooting

Law enforcement officials have arrested two suspects in connection to a daylight shooting in Dorchester last month that resulted in the death of a 20-year-old Boston man, according to Boston police.

Both suspects, Keith Cousins, 30, of Boston, and 22-year-old Shaquille Brown, of Mattapan, will be charged with murder in Dorchester District Court, police said.

The shooting occurred at about 10 a.m. on June 28 in the area of 96 Ashmont St. According to police, officers responded to a radio call and found a male victim, later identified as Christopher Austin, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Austin was transported to an area hospital, where he died of his injuries several days later, police said.

Cousins was arrested in Marietta, Georgia Friday after an investigation by Boston police, along with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, the Marietta Police Department, the Cobb County (Georgia) Sheriff’s Department, and the U.S. Marshals Service, according to police. Police said Boston homicide detectives traveled to Georgia to interview Cousins, who remained in custody Monday awaiting extradition.

Brown is incarcerated locally on an unrelated matter, according to police.
