Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley told reporters Wednesday that he believes justice has been served in the murder of 2-year-old Bella Bond, following the sentencing of the girl’s mother, Rachelle Bond.

As part of her plea deal, made in exchange for her testimony during the trial of her ex-boyfriend, Michael McCarthy, Rachelle Bond will be released from jail Friday after pleading guilty to accessory after the fact to murder and serving less than two years in prison. She was sentenced Wednesday to time served and two years of probation.

Michael McCarthy was found guilty of second-degree murder in June and sentenced to life in prison.

“There would have been no prosecution of Michael McCarthy without the cooperation agreement that we made with Rachelle Bond to secure her testimony,” Conley told reporters. “And again, we wouldn’t make that sort of an agreement with any witness unless we were satisfied to the best of our abilities that the … testimony that she would offer would be truthful.”
