18-year-old held without bail in fatal Dorchester shooting

An 18-year-old Roxbury man was held without bail Tuesday in connection to a fatal shooting in Dorchester on Thursday.

Khamonie McCallop was charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm in Roxbury Municipal Court, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office. He is accused of killing 17-year-old Christopher Menard.

On Thursday evening, Boston police officers heard gunshots near Blue Hill Avenue and Cheney Street, authorities said. When they arrived on scene, they found Menard and a 14-year-old boy with gunshot wounds. The boy was taken to Boston Children’s Hospital with injuries that weren’t considered life threatening, but Menard was pronounced dead at Boston Medical Center, the DA’s office said.

The shooting was the second homicide in Boston on Thursday. Earlier that day, a man was fatally stabbed in Roxbury.

Prosecutors said that McCallop was identified using video footage of the incident. He was arrested Monday evening and will return to court on August 9.
