Pete Frates — the former Boston College baseball player and inspiration behind the viral “Ice Bucket Challenge’’ — is back at Massachusetts General Hospital “battling this beast ALS like a Superhero,’’ according to a post from his family.

“We feel your love and support and are so grateful. Prayer and love — the most powerful of medicines! Thank you!’’ a family member posted to the Team FrateTrain Facebook page.

Frates, 32, lives with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, a progressive neurodegenerative disease. The Ice Bucket Challenge raised more than $250 million dollars for ALS research.

Monday morning, the family posted an update indicating that Frates was “resting comfortably’’ at the hospital.
