Peabody man leads police on high-speed chase on Mass. Pike; crashes in Marlboro

A gun-toting Peabody man led police on a high-speed chase on the Mass. Pike Tuesday before he crashed his Ford Mustang in Marlboro, officials said.

Marqus Mitchell, 33, held the handgun as he exited the damaged Mustang, but he “dropped it when commanded by troopers,” State Police spokesman David Procopio said in a statement.

The wild episode began shortly after 4:30 p.m., when Auburn police alerted troopers that they were pursuing a “white 2014 Ford Mustang whose driver was in possession of a firearm and narcotics,” Procopio said.
