Shayanna Jenkins Hernandez told Dr. Phil she thought news of Aaron Hernandez’s suicide was a hoax

In a lengthy interview with television host Dr. Phil McGraw, Shayanna Jenkins Hernandez reveals that she was just as shocked by the prison suicide of her fiance, Aaron Hernandez, as everyone else. In fact, her initial reaction to the news was that it wasn’t real.
“I thought it was a hoax, that this was some cruel person playing a trick on me,” Jenkins Hernandez says during the interview, according to a quote released by the show. Hernandez, who had just been acquitted of a double murder and was about to appeal his conviction in the murder of Odin Lloyd, was found dead in his cell at Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley on April 19.
“I felt like we were looking so bright,” Jenkins Hernandez says during the interview. “We were going up a ladder to a positive direction.”
Jenkins Hernandez’s Dr. Phil interview will air in two parts on May 15 and 16.
