Connecticut man charged after dead father found in ‘squalid’ home

MANCHESTER, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut man is facing manslaughter and other charges after his 94-year-old father’s dead body was found in their squalid home.

James Libby, of South Windsor, was held on $750,000 bond after a court appearance this week. Online court records do not list a defense attorney.

His father, Robert Libby, was found dead in November by police making a well-being check at the request of other relatives. He had been dead several days.

Investigators say the 59-year-old son was charged with manslaughter because he “intentionally did not check on Robert or provide him with any food, water, or diaper changes.”

Police say the home was strewn with trash, discarded diapers and thousands of empty beer cans.

During the investigation, James Libby said he gave his father 24-hour care.
