Woman pleads guilty in Vermont homeless camp beating death
BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — A woman is headed to prison after pleading guilty to aggravated assault in the beating death of a man at a Vermont homeless camp.
Allison Gee pleaded guilty to the reduced charge Monday in Vermont Superior Court. She originally faced a charge of second-degree murder. A judge sentenced the 25-year-old Gee to five years behind bars followed by an undetermined amount of time on probation.
Thirty-eight-year-old Amos Beede of Milton, Vermont, was beaten May 22 as part of a dispute between two Burlington homeless encampments. Beede died of head injuries May 28.
Beede was attacked at a camp near the Lake Champlain waterfront. He suffered head trauma, facial fractures and broken ribs.
Gee was among five people charged with murder in Beede’s death. The other suspects have pleaded not guilty.
