The “Fearless Girl” statue is staying on Wall Street
The statue was installed by Boston's State Street Corporation.
Looks like the “Fearless Girl” will be staring down the Charging Bull for a while.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio told the New York Daily News that the bronze statue – which shows an undaunted ponytailed squaring off against the Financial District’s famous Charging Bull – will stay put through at least February 2018. The statue was commissioned by State Street Global Advisors, a branch of the Boston-based State Street Corporation.
“In her short time here, the Fearless Girl has fueled powerful conversations about women in leadership and inspired so many,” de Blasio said in a statement to the Daily News. “Now, she’ll be asserting herself and affirming her strength even after her temporary permit expires — a fitting path for a girl who refuses to quit.”
The statue, which was unveiled on International Women’s Day, was slated to be removed on April 2. The decision to keep the bronze girl in place was made in response to calls from across the world for it to be installed there permanently.
De Blasio tweeted about the statue’s extended stay on Monday morning.

“She’ll be asserting herself and affirming her strength even after her temporary permit expires,” he wrote.
In addition to introducing the statue on International Women’s Day, State Street announced that it would press 3,500 companies in which it invests to add more women to their boards. The corporation has been criticized, howeverk for the fact that it only has three women on its 11-member Board of Directors.
The statue was sculpted by Delaware-based artist Kristen Visbal.
